How the math works
Real Florida rates, not marketing.
Built on each utility's published residential rate, historical rate hikes, and the actual savings range solar customers see in your area.
1
Your utility, your rate
FPL is ~$0.14/kWh, Duke ~$0.16, TECO ~$0.15. We pull the rate that matches your provider so the bill-to-kWh conversion is honest.
2
Compounding rate hikes
Each utility raises rates differently. FPL averages 3.5%/yr, Duke 4.2%, TECO 3.8%. We compound your bill year-over-year to project the real future cost.
3
Solar savings %
Default is the typical savings range for your provider. Slide it up or down to model conservative or aggressive scenarios — the math still holds.
Common questions
Before you commit.
How accurate is this calculator?
It's a solid ballpark using each utility's published rates and historical rate hikes (FPL 3.5%, Duke 4.2%, TECO 3.8%, OUC 3.2%, JEA 3.0%). Your real numbers depend on roof orientation, shade, and your specific rate plan. The free in-home analysis locks in exact figures.
Should I use $ or kWh to enter usage?
Either works. kWh is more accurate because rates differ by utility. If you only know your dollar amount, that's fine — we use your provider's published rate to convert.
What's the savings % slider for?
It's the year-1 savings vs. your utility bill. Default values come from typical solar customers per utility. Lower it to be conservative — even at 15% savings, the 25-year picture is huge once utility rate hikes compound.
Why does Duke save more than FPL?
Duke's residential rate is higher than FPL (~$0.16 vs $0.14/kWh) and their historical rate hikes are bigger (4.2% vs 3.5%). Same solar system, more savings — because you're displacing a more expensive utility.
Will a salesperson call me after I use this?
Not unless you book a meeting. Use the calculator as long as you want — it's free, no signup, nothing collected. Only when you click 'Book my free analysis' do we know who you are.
Do you actually do the install or subcontract it?
We install with our own licensed crews under license CGC1530681. Permits, inspections, and utility interconnection are all handled in-house. One contractor, one accountability.
